Why Go Greek?
The first question you ask yourself before you start to look into different organizations is why should you even go greek at all? SUNY Delhi has an amazing greek family. Even other sororities and fraternities who we may not know so well, will still smile or start a conversation with each other. The truth of it is, is that we are all connected under the big greek life umbrella. Each sorority and fraternity is different in their own ways, of course, but we are all connected. We go to the same events, hang out in the same places, listen to the same music, and so much more. There are so many reasons as to why you should consider greek life at Delhi. Here are a few of them :
11 Reasons Why To Go Greek At SUNY Delhi
Greeks do it better.
SUNY Delhi: a small college located in the Catskill Mountains of New York. When I first got accepted into Delhi I was excited to go away to school and make new friends and memories. When you first visit the school, you realize how small the town is and you think, "Well, what am I going to do now?" This is why Greek life has such a huge place in the Delhi community. Here is a list of reasons of why you should join a greek organization at Delhi.

When you first visit the school, you realize how small the town is and you think, "Well, what am I going to do now?" This is why Greek life has such a huge place in the Delhi community. Here is a list of reasons of why you should join a greek organization at Delhi.
1. It's a great way to make friends. From rushing, to pledging, to becoming an active sister/brother of an organization, you are making friends throughout the entire process. There are constantly new people getting pledged in, and organizations grow larger each semester. There will always be new people to meet. Plus, your own sisters/brothers will become your family in ways you wouldn't expect. |
2. You find a home away from home Before I pledged, I described Delhi as a place I went to school, and I enjoyed it but after I pledged I never wanted to leave. Going home for breaks and summer felt weird because I was without my Greek family. I really formed a strong connection with Delhi after I joined a Greek organization, and being away from school just feels odd. |
4. It looks good on a job resume What a lot of people seem to forget is that joining a sorority/fraternity has its advantages even after you graduate. If you pledge a recognized organization, there are so many opportunities to have leadership roles and those look great to a potential employer. |
5. You'll be involved in a lot of Delhi's traditions .A lot of Delhi's traditions are dominated by Greek life. Relay for Life, UDE Fest, KSE's Suicide Prevention Walk, MIU's Butterfly Week, and LAU's LAW Week just to name a few. |
7. You learn what hard work and determination can do for your life No matter what organization you pledge, letters aren't just handed out. You have to earn your letters. Before I pledged I would have given up in a lot of situations in my life, but after I learned what staying with something even when it gets rough REALLY means. |
9. Social Life Okay lets be honest, it's no secret that Greeks are responsible for night life in Delhi. The weekends are a time for fun and making new friends! Playing games against other organizations is a great way to meet new people, and going out with your brothers/sisters is always so much fun! |
11. You'll regret it if you don't I've talked to countless amounts of people that were weeks away from graduating say that they regret not pledging during their time in Delhi. For those who did pledge, a lot of them say they regret not doing it earlier. Greek life is truly what makes college a memorable experience, especially in a small town like Delhi. **This article was posted by Jessica Berdecia from Delhi sorority, Omicron Xi Omega - you can find the article here https://www.theodysseyonline.com/11-reasons-join-greek-life-suny-delhi** |
